🧭 The Golden Rule

Never assume you know enough. The Maine woods are full of hazards that look familiar but aren't. A field guide and clear thinking are your only tools that matter. Confidence kills — preparation doesn't.

⚠️ Look-Alikes Are Real

Most survival mistakes happen because people misidentify terrain, plants, or ice conditions. Fiddleheads and hemlock both grow near water. Solid-looking ice isn't. Know the difference before you commit.

📅 Timing Matters

Maine's wilderness has windows. Black ice forms overnight. Moose are aggressive during rut and calving season. Mud season swallows roads whole. Know when you're going — not just where — and the woods get a lot less dangerous.
